 WHO’S ALREADY HELPING TO LEAD US TO A BETTER FUTURE? 

A growing number of organisations are helping to power up New Zealand’s transition to a low carbon future. We’re shining a light on their contributions, while acknowledging there is much more work to do. We now need to resource co-ordinated, collective action at scale to immediately drawdown greenhouse gas emissions. Today, we are releasing a Climate Solutions Directory for New Zealand, to positively support these efforts.

 Runaway climate change and persistent inequality is ravaging the world and costing a fortune. These system-level challenges and other profound shifts like pandemics, resource constraints, and shrinking biodiversity threaten our very existence on the planet. 

While New Zealand is has made some traction at the policy level through the Zero Carbon Bill, we are one of the limited number of developed countries whose emissions are still rising. The recently published Emissions Reduction Plan does not get us to where we collectively need to be. In New Zealand we are simply not moving fast enough. We can do better. The stakes are high. To preserve a liveable climate, greenhouse-gas emissions must be cut roughly in half by 2030. 

It is well recognised that coordinated action at scale is fundamental to enable the changes required and to stay within planetary boundaries. Delaying action also creates a more expensive and disruptive transition to a low-carbon society. There is an imperative to act, now.

PURPOSE OF THIS DIRECTORY

This directory was created for two core purposes:  1. To help accelerate the changes we need by uplifting co-ordinated climate action at scale across New Zealand.  2. To demonstrate the growing momentum from iwi, business and communities actively contributing practical climate solutions. These courageous organisations are already helping to lead us to a better future.
