Facilitation of a Covid-19 Recovery Framework for New Zealand

The depth of the current crisis and scope of the immediate emergency response means that choices made right now will shape our society for many years to come. These choices could include for example, how we prioritise and focus the flow of capital across both private and public investments- whether debt, equity or grants.

As we ramp up relief efforts, we also need to ensure we are being strategic about optimising our longer-term recovery. Simply put, we need to build back better. This means taking a systems-level approach to considering interrelated crises in Aotearoa New Zealand - such as those of wealth inequalities, family violence, climate and ecological crises, that have been present long before Covid 19- and now risk being intensified.

The Lever Room is pleased to share that we are currently facilitating the development of an Interim National Recovery Framework to build back better. This recovery framework and the group behind it seeks to optimise positive outcomes for longer term recovery, and minimise unintended consequences of NZ’s Covid-19 response.

To build this framework we will be liaising with leaders across academia, iwi, impact investment, science, wellbeing and public health, government, global business and philanthropy.  We also anticipate connecting with the recently formed business group led by Rob Fyfe which is currently focussing on locking down immediate threats (i.e immediate response rather than longer term recovery).

The Build Back Better: Covid-19 Recovery Framework will take a systems-level approach to help solve current crises . It is being developed to assist those across business, government and philanthropy currently making decisions on where best to focus Covid-19 relief efforts.

This work has been jointly funded by The Lever Room (as a pro bono initiative) and The PIF Foundation.
