Palmerston North Airport

  • ACA Level 4+ Transformation

  • TILT integrated carbon management

  • Carbon and Sustainability Strategy

  • Terminal and stakeholder decarbonisation

Palmerston North Airport is a critical regional gateway and infrastructure asset, supporting passenger travel, freight, emergency response and economic activity across the lower central North Island.

The airport needed more than an annual carbon footprint. It required an integrated system that could support operational decisions, major capital investment, stakeholder engagement and the technical requirements of Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Technical approach

Lever Room implemented TILT, our ongoing carbon management programme that brings emissions measurement, reduction planning, governance, reporting and assurance readiness into one coordinated system.

Through TILT, we strengthened the airport’s emissions data and reporting processes, developed its Carbon Management Plan and Sustainability Strategy, and translated its targets into a practical implementation roadmap.

The programme considered Scope 1–3 emissions, operational energy, fleet transition, procurement, stakeholder emissions and the carbon implications of the terminal redevelopment. It also aligned the airport’s evidence, governance and reduction planning with the requirements of Airport Carbon Accreditation.

Impact

The programme supported Palmerston North Airport to advance its Airport Carbon Accreditation rating to Level 4 Transformation, demonstrating stronger carbon governance, an absolute emissions-reduction pathway and active engagement with airport stakeholders.

Beyond accreditation, TILT established a repeatable carbon management framework across operations, infrastructure planning, reporting and board-level decision-making. The airport now has the systems and evidence needed to maintain its accreditation, demonstrate continued progress and prepare for further advancement.
